Isabelle Edith Kun eyelash glue reaction closes eyes shut - Totally Grody! Woman's Eyes Swell Completely Shut After an Allergic Reaction to Eyelash Glue

An Ottawa-area woman who developed an extreme allergic reaction after getting eyelash extensions is warning other ladies about the prospective danger of the trendy esthetic treatment.

Isabelle Edith Kun, a 20-year-old nursing student, living in Ottawa, says she went on Tuesday to get a brand-new set of eyelash extensions put-on. On Thursday, she woke up to find her eyes had swelled almost totally closed.

"My girlfriend had slept over, and I could not even see her. And, I was having a tough time swallowing and even breathing," she told CTVNews.ca. by phone.

The friend called her a Lyft to take her to a medical facility.

" They took me right in within seconds when they saw my face. My eyes are swollen both above and under, and my tonsils were apparently really swollen," she says.

Kun has never had an allergy to anything in her life, she says. However, for the last year or two, she had been getting eyelash extensions done every two or 3 weeks, paying $100 or more each time to have an esthetician use the lashes, one at a time, utilizing an adhesive.

When she had the treatment last month, she discovered her eyes ended up being swollen, so she asked for the name brand name of the eyelash adhesive utilized. This time, she says she asked the esthetician if they were still using the same brand, describing she thought she had an allergic reaction to the glue.

Kun says the esthetician replied, "I don't know the name of the glue we utilize; however you ought to be good," and informed her not to stress.

" So I stated alright. I continued with it when I really shouldn't have. I should not have done it when I heard she didn't even understand what glue she was using or what the ingredients were or anything," Kun states.

Within hours, Kun's eyes were inflating much more severely than previously.

By Thursday, she was in a healthcare facility, being administered an antihistamine and steroid intravenously, to attempt to decrease the swelling.

Kun states the swelling hasn't enhanced, but she was sent back home and told to continue with the antihistamine in pill kind to see if her condition gets better.

Kun is stressed that may not happen because she couldn't get the adhesive dropped since her eyes are still too swollen.

" My eyes are even worse now. There's like a sack of fluid under my eye now. It's so gross," she states.

Kun says the beauty bar she went to states on its site that the majority of allergies to eyelash extensions are because of the adhesive. The site advises that, for customers who believe they are sensitive to the adhesives, the hair salon can test for allergies by using a few hairs and seeing what happens.

The majority of eyelash glues are made of instant adhesives called cyanoacrylates. Numerous skin specialists have documented patients who have established mild to extreme allergic reactions to cyanoacrylates, which are also used in "nail wrapping" and other manicure procedures.

Sara Du, the owner of the Sara Beauty health spa that Kun checked out, stated her business is not able to offer allergic reaction testing to every client, but will use it to those who request it.

She declined to comment on Kun's experience or any of her customers, but she said that with any reaction to a beauty service, it's often tough to be sure what triggered a reaction.

Kun states she didn't understand that she might even develop an unexpected allergy and she desires other ladies to learn about the threat and to ensure they ask for an allergic reaction test.

"Also be extremely cautious where you go. These individuals are handling your eyes, with your vision. I suggest, this morning I awakened, and I questioned if I would ever be able to see again," she states.

When it comes to whether she will ever get extensions once again, Kun says she hopes she can.

" I would wish to do them again, but I will be going for allergic reaction testing beforehand because I do like getting false eyelashes."

The lushes eyelashes make eyes more glittery and appealing. However, utilizing false eyelashes often can be harming.

Fake eyelashes extensions are an essential part of numerous women's makeup kits.

Putting on Thicker lashes requires glue to stick, to prevent them from falling out, yet not many women clean their skin which creates the perfect condition for lice and bacteria to grow and live.

Tiny bacteriae are challenging to see with the naked eye and can cause itching, inflammation, swelling, and so on.

Besides, having them attached can have terrible repercussions like this:

The false eyelashes put on top of the eyelashes can interfere with proper nourishment, blood circulation, and can result in loss of eyelashes if left untreated. You do not know how high the quality of the glue is, whether it is lotion or cream, which is likely harmful to the eye. Long-lasting will cause conjunctivitis, redness, tearing and infections.

Also, this procedure of beauty is more prone to inflammation of the eyelid or in the eyelids discomfort, often on the sides, gushing copious tears, dry eyes, the particles stick in the eyelashes.

I've always found eye-makeup eliminator redundant. Unless I'm wearing water-resistant mascara and eyeliner, I never feel the need to use a cleansing product made specifically for my eyes. Whatever face wash I've used has always worked, though admittedly with extra effort and micellar water to get the lingering mascara smears erased from around my eyes. And speaking of grease, the eye-makeup eliminators I've tried have always been so greasy.

Then I began seeing a variety of eyelash hair shampoos

eyelash shampoo 300x300 - Shampoo For Your Eyelashes? Yes Please!Yes, eyelash hair shampoos-- striking shelves, and I believed, OK, now we're getting inordinately specific. As if eye-makeup remover wasn't already probably hyper-focused, now we require a cleanser geared simply for lashes? That's like making nail polish cleaner for the tips of your nail.

But the believing behind these brand-new lash cleansers claims not to be purely a gimmick: Some are meant to be more efficient at targeting mascara accumulation while still being gentle on lashes and lash extensions, while others state they're less oily than their standard eliminator counterparts.

Makeup artists, too, have been promoting them lately as an excellent tool for getting a better mascara application, considering that they're stated to get dirt and particles better, giving you cleaner lashes to start with. From where I stood, however, I would not be able to genuinely evaluate the just how unneeded or beneficial lash shampoo is till I tried it. So that's exactly what I did.

I figured the best way to compare lash cleansers would be not just against each other but against a good old-fashioned eye-makeup remover.

I grabbed the most generic one I could find and utilized it together with three of the most recent lash shampoo solutions -- Lash Box Bubble Lash Shampoo, Beauty Garde Lash + Brow Shampoo, and RevitaLash Micellar Water Lash Wash-- screening each against the same mascara to assess their thoroughness, gentleness, and greasiness.

Lash Box Bubble Lash Shampoo ($17, lashboxla.com) was created as an alternative to eye-makeup cleaner for lash extensions, declaring to be mild on both lashes and delicate eyes. But although the brand name's website explains it as a "nonburning formula," I was quickly advised why we've been taught from childhood to prevent getting anything called hair shampoo near our eyes.

As I tried to wiggle the foam (which appears like the soap of shampoo) down the length of my lashes, I felt an intense stinging and watched with my other eye as the mascara started to spread out all over. I gladly washed it away with water, as directed, and discovered that it did, in fact, thoroughly remove the mascara, leaving absolutely nothing on my towel and no greasiness around my eyes.

Always slow to learn my lessons, I chose to attempt the other lash cleanser with hair shampoo in the name next.

After using a new coat of mascara on my leading and bottom lashes and letting it dry, I wet the integrated, charcoal-infused brush on Beauty Garde's Lash + Brow Shampoo ($15, beautygarde.com), and squeezed the oil-free gel formula through it. I swept the brush up and down my lashes, and once again I was met stinging, despite pledges of gentleness.

Another formula made to be rinsed away with water, I aspired to do so. On the plus side, it left my lashes thoroughly clean without greasiness, and as the product packaging notes, the antimicrobial brush is also fantastic for brow makeup.

lashwash 300x300 - Shampoo For Your Eyelashes? Yes Please!I applied my next round of mascara while virtually crossing my fingers that RevitaLash's Micellar Water Lash Wash ($36, nordstrom.com) wouldn't feel like liquid bees on my eyeball. As the mascara dried, I contemplated how it was any different from the micellar waters made for the entire face it even consists of poloxamer 184, one of the most common components found in familiar micellar waters but I soon discovered that it removed my mascara more quickly than any micellar water I've used prior to. I sprayed it on a cotton pad and pressed it to my closed eye for 10 seconds, followed by gently wiping back and forth. I was thrilled to discover the mascara was entirely off, and my eye seemed like it had been to therapy.

But did any of these remove mascara more efficiently than your typical, ordinary eye-makeup remover?

Remarkably, yes. After returning to my first remover, an initial look provided me with the impression that my mascara was fully cleared. However, a closer appearance revealed little clumps still sitting at the base of my lashes. Furthermore, when I washed my face later on in the day, blotting my best eye with a towel created black marks on the terrycloth.

Between that and the greasy feel of many standard removers, lash cleansers are more effective. Are they extremely essential, though? Eh, if you're willing to throw down more loan, go all out.

dog with eyelashes 1 - Dogs with Fake Eyelashes are Now a Thing!

Right now, it's not a huge thing by any stretch yet. However, for much better or even worse, this does exist! Earlier this month, Japanese Twitter user @miomio3030 uploaded images of a Pomeranian with unused faux lashes.

fake eyelashes on dog - Dogs with Fake Eyelashes are Now a Thing!

The fake eyelashes were placed above the animal's eyes-- instead of, you know, in fact using them to the pup. Online, many discovered the result rather amusing, saying the lashes made the lovable dog even cuter.

Over the years, there were other examples of this in Japan. Pets with lashes are very much a niche thing, so don't think all animal owners in Japan are doing this!

Hopefully, these family pet owners ensured their four-legged friends didn't accidentally consume the lashes or poke themselves in the eye with them. Still, take a look:

audrey hepburns eyelash trick - Recreating Audrey Hepburn's Signature Eyelash TrickClumpy lashes may be having a minute, but I've always preferred a more natural-looking approach when it concerns maximizing my lashes. So instead of idolizing those with a heavy-handed mascara approach, like a Twiggy or Kim Kardashian, Audrey Hepburn has my doe-eyed idol.

Actress Audrey Hepburn, star of Breakfast at Tiffany's, remains one of Hollywood's greatest style icons and one of the world's most successful actresses.

While Hepburn liked to darken, plump, and lengthen like the best of them, she had one trick to ensure that her lashes looked naturally fanned-out and clump-free-- and it wasn't a magic mascara wand.

After using a layer of mascara, her makeup artist Alberto de Rossi would take a pin and meticulously separate every single lash.

Yes, it's a painstaking-- the average upper eyelid has an average of 70 to 150 lashes-- and potentially dangerous process because, ouch. But, in my mind, it's a little rate to pay on the quest for Hepburn's classic gaze. So, just recently, I asked makeup artist Joseph Carrillo to give me the very same treatment with his clump-busting tool of option: a sewing pin. It took about 5 minutes per set of lashes (10 very mindful minutes in overall) and sufficed it to say. A small silver pin has officially become a staple of my tightly-edited makeup bag. Here's how it went down:

Before you get pin-happy, curl your lashes as you usually would, if at all. Carillo used Shu Uemura's cult-favorite eyelash curler to amp things up before applying two coats of Dior Diorshow Extase Mascara.

audrey hepburns eyelash trick2 150x150 - Recreating Audrey Hepburn's Signature Eyelash Trick2: Separate Lashes with a Pin

Start at the base near the waterline and pull the pin through to the top, separating each specific lash. This defines each lash, in addition to helps distribute the dark mascara pigment more evenly. When you finish the first eye, repeat on the next and proceed to your lower cover lashes if you 'd like.

3: Voilà!

As you can see, my lashes are clump-free for a total more natural, yet equally impactful look à la Hepburn. Mia's  Note: If you're fearful that you do not have the time or that the chances are stacked versus you not to stab yourself in the eye, I feel you. In that case, use the pin on the clumpiest sections instead of each specific lash * or * attempt an eyelash comb to brush-through lashes simultaneously.

mcdonalds eyebrows goldenarches beautybyelenax 7 - Troll Alert: The Hilarious New McDonalds Eyebrow Fad

Huda Kattan Does "McDonald's Eye-Brows" to Troll Strange Eyebrow Craze

In the past month alone, I've witnessed way too many wacky brow "fads"-- assuming that youcan, in fact, call them that-- to keep track of.

Let's see, and there was the squiggle brow, the dragon brow, the barbwire brow, and then most recently, the braided brow.
While I'm over here thinking ~ WHY!?!? It seems Huda Kattan is right there with me.

She might just be a few steps ahead.

The beauty mogul took to her Instagram Wednesday night, to reveal a hilarious satire in which she attempts a new brow trend referred to as, "McDonald's brows." In the mock tutorial, Kattan goes over a few of the previously mentioned eyebrow trends we've found in the last few weeks, before saying the McDonald's brow is her favorite to date. (Okay, Huda, I see you.).

She then dives into the how-to part of the segment, explaining that, before drawing the notorious McDonald's arches (get it?) with an eyebrow pen, you should completely cover your natural brows with a glue stick or powder foundation. Peep the full video for a good laugh, or perhaps some early Halloween inspiration?

A post shared by Huda Kattan (@hudabeauty) on

" This is the last look-- I feel like I could go from McDonald's to like, a rabbit," Kattan jokes, mimicking a bunny-like motion. She is most definitely mocking the "trend," as she includes outtakes from the video where she's laughing and joking with whoever is behind the camera. She concludes the tutorial by saying she really hopes this is the last brow trend we see for a while-- and needless to say, I agree.

Eagerly waiting for McDonald's to weigh in on this catastrophe. Or at least we thought we had seen it all, and then the reverse falsies trend came along and now we're just plain confused.

Yep, it's backward false eyelashes that everyone's talking about this week after makeup artist Pablo Rodriguez took to Instagram to show off an easy way to give yours a simple high fashion update.

If you're tired of having the same terrifically dull human-looking eyelashes as everybody else, makeup artist Pablo Rodriguez (@pablo_rodriguez_makeup) has you covered. He came up with a quick new way to apply false lashes that is so oddly stunning you're going to be mad you didn't think of it first.

As you've probably thought by now, it primarily involves applying individual lashes in reverse so you affix them using what might usually be the tips. The resulting look is a perfect type of spidery, Twiggy-style clumped lashes.

Overall it's a very ethereal sort of style, but we suppose it'll look pretty ace during the winter months and party season, so might be worth trying out if you like to be a little different.

Instead of applying lashes the usual way with the root glued to the lid-- he put them on backward. So the result is absolutely Alien-Chic!

The out-of-the-box application produces a geometric spidery look that's unquestionably unique.

To do it, just apply glue to the lash tips, then stick them to your own lash line like usual.

For extra drama make like Pablo and leave the brows natural but brushed up and out with some clear gel to add volume.  The minute they're dry, go ahead and bat your eyes like the queen of weirdness you are.

The 7 Most Essential Eyelash Hacks for 2018Fabulous eyelashes: every woman on The planet dreams of them, and we're willing to go to increasingly extreme lengths to get them. You don't have to resort to implants to get amazing lashes-- not when everything you need for more volume, length and curl is already in your bathroom. Here are seven brilliant hacks to get the best eyelashes of your life.

1. Use eyeshadow for added fullness.

By now you've probably read that brushing baby powder onto your eyelashes in between coats of mascara is a great way to build volume. The issue is that the white powder under black mascara shows through even the darkest formula, making you seem like you fell lashes-first into a powdered doughnut. Hard pass. Instead, use matte powder eyeshadow in the same shade as your mascara between coats; you'll build volume without any strange white residue.

Extra tip: Try layering a shimmery shade between coats to reveal the world your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

2. Mix your colors.

No matter your coloring, eyelashes aren't one solid color from root to tip-- there's a positive dark-to-light gradient happening. So if you're aiming for a natural lash look, a thick coating of solid black all over is hardly your best bet. Instead, try layering a couple of colors of mascara. Begin with a coat of black applied at the roots of your eyelashes only-- use a mascara with a narrow brush and wriggle it as close to the lashline as you can-- and follow up with a coat of brown mascara overtop, extending out to the tips. This creates a color gradient that seems all-natural, yet amplified.

Extra tip: If you're feeling bold, use a bright blue, or green mascara overtop the black. This will give you a gorgeous, subtly shiny gradient.

3. Heat your curler.

Instead of heating up your entire eyelash curler with your blow-dryer, hold just the curling part in a glass of boiling water for about five seconds, dry it off, then curl your lashes. The water means that the metal heats up for a lot more evenly, plus you will never accidentally torch your fingers with your dryer.

4. Prime prior to curling.

One of the cardinal rules of beauty is NEVER CURL YOUR LASHES AFTER APPLYING MASCARA-- unless you want all your eyelashes breaking off. But putting on lash primer prior to you curl is another story altogether. Primer is less brittle than mascara, so it will not stick to the curler pads and snap or yank the hairs out-- plus it gives that little bit of extra hold to ensure your lovely lashes stay curled all day.

Extra tip/warning: If you're priming prior to curling, don't also heat your curler. It makes it way too easy to bend your lashes back at a 90-degree angle, which is a hard situation to remedy.

5. Layer your formulas.

We love waterproof mascara, but very hot damn is it hard to take out-- we've scrubbed our under-eyes raw and yanked out even more lashes than we can count trying to take it off. To make it easier to get rid of while maintaining its long-wearing properties, layer a coat of waterproof mascara overtop your regular formula. Voila, the best of both worlds.

6. Add eye makeup remover to resurrect dry mascara.

If your mascara has dried up before its time, bring it back to life by adding two to three drops of alcohol-based eye makeup remover to the tube. It will re-liquify the solution, giving your preferred formula a severe second lease on life.

Bonus tip: Don't, under any circumstances, use an oil-based makeup remover for this. It'll ruin your mascara and give you greasy lashes.

We know that clumpy lashes are in right now, but you're getting the spider-leg look against your desires, dried-up clumps of mascara on your brush could be to blame. Instead of buying a whole new mascara, cleanse your spoolie with a paper towel soaked with contact lens solution. Not only will it get rid of all the old product gunking up the works, but it'll also rehydrate the bristles-- ensuring you'll have smoother application in the future.
