If you want your lash extensions to keep looking full and dramatic for several months down the line, you may need to re-do them a couple of times.
The question is, when do you need to re-do them, and how often can you do it before it’s unhealthy?
Your Lash Extensions lifespan
Before having your lash extensions redone, it’s important to consider the lifespan of your extensions.
The lifespan of your natural lashes is relative to the lifespan of your lash extensions. After all, your lash extensions are attached to your natural eyelashes.
Your natural eyelashes shed every 45-60 days on average. Every time your natural eyelash falls out, it will be replaced by new growth.
This means your lash extensions will fall out along with your natural lashes.
Although you can’t really avoid your natural lashes from naturally falling out, you can extend the lifespan of your lash extensions by being extra careful with them.
Extend your Lash Extension’s Lifespan
The first 48 hours after your initial application are the most crucial, as your lash extensions are at their most vulnerable.
The two main things you need to avoid during the first 48 hours are steam and water! Steam can cause the semi-permanent lash extension glue to lose hold, which can result in your lashes falling out prematurely.
The same logic applies with water. As water comes into contact with the glue, it can affect your lash extensions sticking to your natural lashes.
After the 48 hours are done, this doesn’t mean you can just do whatever you want with your lashes. You still need to treat them with care. Avoid rubbing your eyes and applying oil-based eye makeup.
Do not excessively touch your lashes, and although it may be tempting for you to tug and pick on them when they start falling out, it can actually be bad for your natural lashes.
Tugging and picking on your lashes can cause serious damage on your natural lashes, You wouldn’t want your lashes to go completely bald, now, would you?
The best time to re-do your lash extensions
For some, their extensions can last up to six weeks, but for others, it can go as short as 4-5 weeks. It all depends on your lash cycle.
If your natural lashes shed slower than others, then you can only get your lash extensions re-done after 5-6 weeks.
But if your natural lashes shed faster, it’s better to get them re-done after 3-4 weeks to maintain the full dramatic look that you want to achieve.
If you just want a lash refill, having them done 3-4 weeks after your initial appointment is also advisable.
However, if you want your lashes completely re-done, you may want to wait 5-6 weeks or until all your lash extensions fall out.
